We are committed to saving lives and improving the safety and well being of our peacekeepers and citizens, as they defend and protect, by producing reliable and highly effective non-lethal products. Our dedication to the science behind the technology is demonstrated by our close working relationships with organizations such as: the Penn State Institute of Non-lethal Studies; the Center for Human Toxicology at the University of Utah; the Walter Reed Army Research Center; the Brooks Center; the National Institute of Justice and other agencies directly involved in the development of effective non-lethal options. PepperBall® brand products have been rigorously tested for proper environmental, bio-trauma, kinetic and flight dynamic performance. PepperBall brand products are protected by U.S. and foreign patents.

We are also proud of our heritage with law enforcement and corrections as well as noted experts in the non-lethal weapons, chemistry and animal control fields. We work closely with our law enforcement partners for advice and testing of any product before we bring it to market, and we are proud of our customer satisfaction levels. We have participated in studies and presented at symposiums of the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate in Quantico, Va., have consulted with renowned Grizzly Bear expert Dr. Stephen Stringham, and black bear expert, Dr. Lynn Rogers, and have worked closely with doctors Theodore C. Chan and Andrew Talley of the Chemistry departments at University of California, San Diego. The PepperBall system has been featured in many television technology programs, including the History Channel's Modern Marvels and Tactical to Practical shows, and our technology has been written about in Colonel John B. Alexander's recently published book, "Winning the War," a follow up to his 1999 book, "Future War…Non-Lethal Weapons in 21st Century Warfare." Pepper as a defense agent got its start over 2000 years ago when Chinese soldiers filled rice paper bags with red pepper and threw them in the faces of their adversaries. The United States Army experimented with oleoresin capsicum (OC) in the early 1900's, but it did not enjoy widespread use until after the civil unrest riots of the 1960's. Lucky Police products of Florida first introduced OC into civilian law enforcement as an aerosol spray that would compete with "mace" in the early 1970's.

PepperBall Technologies, Inc. ushered in the next generation of pepper irritant compliance systems by combining the effects of this irritant with non-lethal kinetic force. This enables authorized officials to effectively control crowds or individuals from a safer distance than the sprays would allow. Now, with its new PAVA-based Pepper Sprays and the new 12-gauge round, PTI has continued the tradition of providing law enforcement with the next generation of tools to help them more effectively accomplish their mission objectives.

Product Lines

The PepperBall System
The PepperBall® system is unique in the industry as the first non-lethal weapon to combine multiple effects to accomplish its objective safely and without permanent injuries or death. Since late 1999 PepperBall has been deployed in thousands of situations around the globe, successfully filling a gap in the use of force continuum where no other tools are available.

The PepperBall system consists of a PepperBall launcher and projectiles. The launchers are high-pressure air delivery systems. PepperBall projectiles are hard plastic spheres built to burst on impact. Live projectiles are the foundation of the system and are filled with enough PAVA (Capsaicin II) powder to irritate a suspect's eyes, nose and throat. As such, the PepperBall system combines a unique kinetic impact technology with pepper powder irritant as a non-lethal deployment device for peace officers. We call this combination of affects Chem-netics™ and hold multiple patents protecting our technology.

Chem-netics makes PepperBall systems effective tools for gaining target compliance. PepperBall projectiles are launched from several types of launchers appropriate for the intended use. These launchers use high-pressure air (CO2) to launch the projectiles. Because the projectiles break upon impact they do not penetrate skin, making this weapon safe even at contact range.

For public safety and government markets, PTI markets several launchers. The launchers include rifle (SA-200) and pistol (SA-10 & SA-4), configurations for public safety and the government sectors, and pistols for home protection. The company markets a number of PepperBall projectiles for tactical and training use in these markets, including: the pepper powder filled live projectiles, inert powder training rounds, dye filled marking rounds, water filled indoor training, anti-freeze-water and glass breaker rounds.
