Kidnapping suspect arrested after two-hour standoff

A north Medford standoff ended with the capture of a second suspect believed to have kidnapped and threatened a known drug user with a baseball bat and gun last month. Daniel Lynn Brown, 37, caused a standoff lasting more than two hours after he refused to leave a garage at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday in the 3800 block of Crater Lake Highway. When Medford police hostage negotiators failed to coax Brown out of the garage to face felony kidnapping, burglary and assault charges, a Special Weapons and Tactics team deployed non-lethal weapons to force him to surrender, according to a Medford police release. At about 12:30 p.m., after SWAT deployed pepper ball rounds into the garage, Brown surrendered, the release says.
