West Valley Police use PepperBall® and K-9 to subdue stabbing suspect

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT — A clerk is recovering in a hospital after a man stabbed her multiple times at a convenience store in West Valley City Monday morning.

Police were called to the Maverik convenience store around 2:30 a.m. on reports of a man knocking over trash cans. When officers arrived, they learned the man had jumped over the counter and stabbed the clerk multiple times with a pocketknife.

The man was extremely combative and police had to use a K-9 and pepperballs, which are pepper spray in paintball-type devices, to subdue him, according to Lt. Steve Katz.
